I have a thought I’ve been repeating for probably over a decade now, “We got so educated, we educated ourselves right out of reality.” I don’t recall the exact circumstances it first occurred to me, but I think it every time I read or hear a new headline about the latest scientific proof of some … Continue reading Educated Beyond Reality

In the July 10, 2026 post “Crisis in Storytelling,” I was thinking about the film Song Sung Blue and I wrote, “Somewhere in the translation of reality into drama something went wrong. “ Art, like anything else in life, demands we make choices about what we include in the work and how to present it … Continue reading Our Perception of Reality

More thoughts on Homer’s and Nolen’s Odysseys Homer’s Odysseus is a hero in the Ancient Greek sense of being larger than life and achieving his goal. He is wise, strong, brave, and handsome. He is also cunning and full of hubris. The gods play a major role in his life and his outcome, as well … Continue reading Ancient Images with Contemporary Meaning Pt 2

In the early posts of this blog I wanted to prove to myself that interacting with an invisible world is universal to humans. I searched for anthropological, cultural and archeological, evidence that there is something more to living than food and clothing, shelter and sex, and the desire and need to provide for these. I … Continue reading There Is an Invisible World

I don't consider myself a funny person, the kind that jokes a lot and entertains other, but I do love to laugh. Humor is often a mystery to me, why exactly do we laugh? What makes something funny? Why do we tell funny stories? The Netflix tv show "Wednesday" came up in a conversation recently … Continue reading “Wednesday” Isn’t Funny

"Bangaranga" is the 2026 winner of the popular and much beloved European national song contest Eurovision. It was an unexpected win and has the largest winning margin over the 2nd-place entry in the history of the contest. I read a heated online debate about the merit of the song, and my curiosity was piqued. A … Continue reading “Bangaranga” – Thrill and Decadence
